A new preprint has been released from the Russell lab, with Alison Vicary as lead author.
This preprint describes how standing variation, in the absence of the innate immune antagonist NS1, interfaces with interferon induction.

08-01-2022 Russell lab awarded funding from NIGMS
Russell lab has received funding from NIGMS of the NIH on an R35 grant entitled “Understanding evasion of cell intrinsic innate immunity in viral populations with high rates of replicative failure”.
With this grant, the Russell lab will continue their work on this key element of understanding the virus-pathogen interface.

Keith Lugo joined the Russell Lab as an undergraduate researcher in March 2021. He recently received a B.S. in Microbiology and has chosen to continue pursuing science with the Russell Lab as a Masters student.

The Russell Lab welcomes graduate student, Alison Vicary! Alison received her B.S. in Biochemistry and Genetics from Texas A&M University and is now working towards earning a Ph.D in Biological Sciences.

The Russell Lab is pleased to have its first postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Sharmada Swaminath, join the lab. Sharmada received her Ph.D. from the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology from the Indian Institute of Science.
